Co-op Expanding Robotic Delivery Partnership

Co-op is expanding its robotic delivery army into two new UK locations - Bedford & Kempston.

In partnership with robotics company Starship Technologies and Bedford Council, will look to serve up to 45,000 residents across the two locations, allowing customers to order from their local Co-op store via the Starship app and have their groceries delivered to them via one of these helpful bots.

The smart delivery bots are not only helpful but also good for the environment, powered by zero-carbon electricity, and making use of A.I and machine learning to power a vision-based navigation that allows them to map out their environment to the inch, even learning how to travel on pavement and avoid obstacles.

Although this might come as a nice surprise for residents in Bedford, this is not the first time these delivery bots have been used in the UK, with Starship robots having already delivered to over 3.5 million happy customers and traveling well over 4 million miles!

Co-op ecommerce director, Chris Conway said, “We are delighted to be able to expand our partnership to areas of Bedford from today – as a convenience retailer, the ability to come into stores will always be important to customers but we also know that shoppers want flexible and convenient options online,”
