The big lamp in the sky has been turned on into full effect this week, so I thought I'd give you a quick rundown on a few basic and helpful ways you can beat the heat whilst you're trapped in your oven-like office.
Pack smarter, the less you have to carry the better!
Easily enough, if you can minimise how much weight you're carrying around, you're likely to sweat a considerable amount less! Your body won't be overheating as quickly which will help you to maintain a cooler body temperature overtime than if you were lugging around a bunch of books and a laptop.
Have plenty of water readily available to drink to stay hydrated.
I feel, though basic, many people forget to drink lots of hot days! Staying hydrated is one of the best ways to maintain a cool body temperature! Not only that it'll help your brain to function more efficiently, even in the blazing heat.
Bring a fan from home into your office.
Bringing a fan from home can be an extra additional help that can stop your body from going over the edge! Just plonk it on your desk and let it blow of the heat away! Something to help the fan blow colder air into your face is to place an extremely cold item in front of the fan, such as a jug full of icy water.
Run cold water over your wrists
Running cold water over your wrists is an extremely efficient way to cool off, the coldness from the water will glide over your veins which should send the cooling sensation all over your body helping you to call down fast!
Less clothes the better.
Depending on the type of office you work at and how lenient they are in the summer heat, the less clothes you can wear the better! If you can swap out your black suit and tie for a white polo and some shorts, then that will absolutely help you out a bunch! Even if you just swap to lighter colour clothes, this will help as the lighter the colour of the clothes you wear, the more effectively they'll reflect the suns rays and help to keep you cool!
Open as many windows as possible.
Incredibly basic, OPEN THE WINDOWS! I shouldn't need to tell anybody this but for goodness sake make sure you have any and all windows open to let a breeze into your office!
Turn the air conditioning up as high as you're allowed.
If you're unfortunate enough to find yourself in a larger indoor space with not many windows about, plead with management to turn the air-conditioning on! If they give you a difficult time about it don't forget to remind them that people work smarter and more efficiently when their first thought every second isn't GOD I AM MELTING.
